PE
At Epsom Primary and Nursery School, we use the realPE unique, child centred approach to provide an environment within PE lessons where every single child can feel challenged and feel they can achieve. This nurturing yet ambitious approach encourages all learners to develop their cultural capital, not just develop specific skills and games. This coherently planned and sequenced curriculum uses fundamental movement skills that are progressive, supportive and challenging. Lessons are adapted to meet the needs of all children in the class by providing choices for all children. In this way, our lessons are always inclusive and allow for children to take ownership of their next steps or activities they would like to continue to practise.
We are part of the Real Legacy approach with Create Development where our main focus in lessons is developing children’s learning behaviours through the multi-ability cogs. Through this approach, it provides children with the breadth and balance in lessons to develop themselves as a whole, not just the physical. As a result, we aim for children to feel challenged, develop their leadership skills, improve confidence and reflection and improve communication skills. Through the different multi-ability cogs, the children are encouraged to engage with all peers in a supportive, respectful and encouraging way to provide an environment where all children feel that they can all achieve, and therefore hope to develop a life-long positive relationship with physical activity. This prepares each child for the next stage of their development whether this is moving in to Key Stage 2, or beyond.
