Computing
At Epsom Primary and Nursery School, we believe that technology continually advances in the world around us and our children need to be prepared to face the challenges of evolving technology. Our high-quality Computing curriculum ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.
Through using our scheme of work, Purple Mash, to scaffold our teaching, we provide a high quality learning experience that follows the three strands of the National Curriculum. Through the teaching of e-safety as part of every computing lesson, we strive to create a whole school e-safety approach, which includes EYFS, where children are respectful to each other online both in school and at home. We provide annual e-safety workshops with parents and distribute regular e-safety updates to help create a safer online community.
To ensure that our lessons are inclusive of our diverse community, where children may start at different points with technology accessible at home, teachers model each activity and screenshots are included throughout to help all learners to access the lesson. Throughout the school, we encourage our learners to be problem solvers and to develop their computational thinking. Our engaging computing scheme of work challenges, guides and motivates our children to be ambitious and we aim to provide children with a wide set of computing skills in Computer Science, Information Technology and Digital Literacy that will help them as they progress to secondary school and beyond.
