Creative Writing Workshop
Posted on: 14/11/2022On 14th November, Epsom Primary School hosted a Creative Writing Workshop ran by Authors Abroad. The workshop was for Year 5 and 6 students who have been identified as having a keen passion and aptitude for writing and would enjoy this inspiring challenge. The event was attended by 4 local schools from the area, along with eight students from Epsom Primary School.
The children were lucky enough to work with writer, Jenny Valentine throughout the day. Jenny wrote her first book, Finding Violet Park, after work and on weekends. It won the 2007 Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize and was shortlisted for the Carnegie award. Her subsequent Young Adult books – Broken Soup, The Ant Colony, The Double Life of Cassiel Roadnight, Fire Colour One and Hello Now – have all been nominated or shortlisted for major awards and translated into nineteen languages. She is currently hard at work on her seventh. Jenny has also written a series for younger readers, Iggy and Me, and a Carnegie nominated middle grade trilogy about a resourceful and resilient optimist, A Girl called Joy, Love from Joy and Planet Joy.
